CSS web standards

So, the other day at work some collegues and I where debating on the topic of web standards, as it applies to CSS (Cascading Style Sheets for the non-tech). The discussion was centered around standards which our web development will adhere to for the projects we build. The designer’s argument was to use parts of both the CSS2.1 and the CSS3.0 specification in the web devlopment. My arguement was to use one or the other, since using elements of both will not allow the CSS to validate to either standard.

Needless to say we had different reasons and motivations for our opinions. Their thought was sticking to the CSS2.1 standard is too limiting to their creativity and innovation. They also feel that we (our company) should be leading innovation by using and pushing new technologies.

I do understand their points and credit them for wanting to use the newer, more exciting technology, but my main position is that the CSS3.0 simply does not have the web browser support yet and probably won’t for some time. Plus, I think we need to stick with what works well and adhere to one standard, not be in the middle of two. When the newer CSS3.0 hits critical mass, I will gladly welcome this in my development — it’s just too soon.

Am I wrong or right in my thinking?

Welcome to my world!

I have started and stoppped so many different blogs in the past, Blogger, Wordpress, etc…I found that I could never stick with it and write anything on a consistant basis. I seem to get caught up in work, family, kids or just life in general and all the other trivial things lose the priority.

But now, it feels different. It feels like I have something to say or at least write about and share. It helps too that I work with a bunch of bloggers and their activities are starting to rub off on me. I can’t guarantee the content I post will always be interesting or even exciting. But it will be mine and it will be a product of how I see the world.

So…here is goes.
